Usiminas Engineers receive international certification
Usiminas technical competence is one of the attributes recognized by the market. This differential is a result of training efforts and qualification promoted by the company and also the result of the employees' hard work and dedication. The most recent example of this performance was the international certification granted by the American Society for Quality – ASQ to 23 Engineers of Ipatinga and Cubatão plants, Usiminas Mecânica and Belo Horizonte Headquarters.
ASQ – American Society for Quality is recognized around the world and to obtain its certification signals the market about the choice for process quality and continuous improvement. Usiminas, aiming at strengthening its Quality Management System, has decided to go ahead and since 1989 has offered the Quality Engineers Training Course aimed at certification. “The American Society for Quality – ASQ's Body of Knowledge for Quality Engineering reflects the practices developed in the world's largest and best companies. Thus, any professional certified with the “Certified Quality Engineer” (CQE) has a differential in the development of projects and solution of problems of great complexity”, considers general coordinator of the Quality Engineers Training course, Paulo Rogério Correa de Oliveira
At Usiminas, the entire training process of such professionals is carried out with internal resources, planned by the Quality Assurance Coordinators, in partnership with Human Resources – HR area. Classes are taught by professionals from Usiminas itself, Quality Engineers who have been previously approved by the ASQ. The initiative has proved effective and the result places Usiminas as the company with the largest number of Quality Engineers certified by the American Society for Quality in Brazil, with 288 professionals with expertise in assessing and controlling the quality of products and services.
