Usiminas to resume operation of Blast Furnace2 at the Ipatinga Plant
Usiminas reinforces its vocation to focus on the domestic market, contributing to the growth of Brazil and has just announced the resumption of operations of Blast Furnace 2 at the Ipatinga Plant. The decision was approved by the Usiminas Board of Directors and the equipment is expected to return to production in June 2021, after going through an investment of approximately R $ 67 million. With a capacity to produce around 2 thousand tons of pig iron per day, Blast Furnace 2 has been stopped since April, due to the pandemic. Upon its return, the Plant will resume operating at full load. “The measure is yet another action by Usiminas aimed at better serving our local customers. In the last few months, we have made almost all of our sales in the national market and worked in order to contribute to the advancement of the industry and the return of growth in Brazil ”, says Sergio Leite, president of Usiminas. In August, we had resumed operation of blast furnace 1, which was also temporarily paralyzed due to the demand crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
